Rains bring business to standstill at Mzimba NBS

Heavy rains on Thursday brought business at Mzuzu NBS Bank to a standstill following the flooding of its banking hall.

The bank’s officials blamed the situation on the failure of the gutters to drain off water.

NBS marketing manager Timothy Ngwira said the gutter could not drain water out of the roof, causing the water to flood the banking hall.

“With the heavy rains, the gutter which empties water out of the roof blocked and forced it into the banking hall. But we are working on it and we will be through in the next two hours,” he said.

Ngwira said customers were directed to a nearby service centre.

A witness said the leakage into the hall started on Wednesday, forcing the bank’s officials to trap water using buckets.

But the leaking got worse on Thursday, forcing the bank to temporarily close.

According to Ngwira, the building was last renovated in January this year.

Mzuzu City has been experiencing heavy rains since Tuesday last week.
